Exhibition Highlights: July - August
Yuko Mohri, Voluta, Camden Arts Centre
Walking into this audio-spatial installation and you are confronted by a layered display - or should I say environment- composed of an aquarium, bells, activated blinds, an organ, mirrors and other precisely placed objects. The connective tissue? An exploration of how non-human forces, can create music. Material things and conceptual propositions interact through use of light, sound and sculpture and its absorbing.
Tuesday to Sunday: 10.00am – 6.00pm, Wednesday: 10.00am – 9.00pm Closed Mondays | Camden Arts Centre, Arkwright Road, London NW3 6DG | www.camdenartscentre.org
Jade Montserrat, Rainbow Tribe: Affectionate Movement R&R, SPACE Mare Street
Rainbow Tribe: Affectionate Movement R&R is an ongoing collaborative project led by visual artist Jade Montserrat and curator Chris Rawcliffe and is a response to a lack of systemic change in the treatment of artists from “protected characteristics”. It repurposes the 'Affectionate Movement', prioritising the urgency of a care centred approach to these challenging but urgent issues.
A wall drawing, covering the whole of the gallery’s walls is on display and provides a backdrop, stage and safe space for further contributions from other artists over the course of the exhibition period.
18 July - 7 September | 129-131 Mare St, London E8 3RH | Gallery hours are Mon – Fri 10am – 5pm | http://www.spacestudios.org.uk/
Tomma Abts, The Sackler Gallery, The Serpentine
25 of Abts' paintings line the walls of the Serpentine's labyrinthine Sackler gallery. The choice to leave the inner space empty could leave the small-scale paintings exposed but they have a quiet and seductive power. Whilst similar in nature, they are full of twist and turns: their apparent simplicity and clarity belying the complex use of layering. It is hard not to read them a a form of visual game or logic whereby understanding of one is contingent on a reading of another. Apts' paintings deserve individual attention and reward patience.
7 Jun 2018 to 9 Sep 2018 | Sackler Gallery, West Carriage Drive, London, W2 2AR | Open daily 10am - 6pm | http://www.serpentinegalleries.org/
